IDF commando lightly hurt after falling into 10-meter hole during training
Civilian rescue teams extract soldier from pit near Mevo Modi'im
An Israeli commando was lightly hurt after falling into a 10-meter (33-foot) hole during training in central Israel overnight, the Israel Defense Forces said Monday.
The soldier, from the IDF’s Commando Brigade, was rescued by the Israel Fire and Rescue Services from the hole near Mevo Modi’im, and taken to a hospital.
Fire officials said it took 40 minutes to extract the soldier from the hole, during which IDF medics were lowered in to give an initial assessment.
The IDF said he was fully conscious and in good condition.
His family was notified of the incident.
There are have been several recent incidents of soldiers falling into holes during military training.
In September, the IDF launched an investigation by into why soldiers keep falling into holes during training exercises, a day after one such incident.
