The body of a soldier who went missing from his base in the West Bank earlier this week was found outside a nearby checkpoint on Thursday morning, the Israel Defense Forces said.

There were no immediate indications of foul play. The Israel Police and Military Police launched investigations into the death of the soldier, Cpl. Sagi Ben-David.

Ben-David was last seen leaving the Anatot base in the West Bank, just north of Jerusalem, on Tuesday night, the IDF and police said in a joint statement.

The army and police set up a joint command to find the soldier after he was reported missing and issued an appeal to the public on Wednesday night for help in finding him.

Ben-David’s body was found on Thursday morning near the Hizme checkpoint, northeast of Jerusalem.

The military waited until the soldier’s family had been notified before releasing the information to the public.
