IDF says rocket fired from Gaza at border area intercepted; no injuries or damage
Over 30 rockets fired from Strip at Israel in past month; military releases footage of drone strike on cell of terror operatives during operations in northern Gaza’s Jabalia
A rocket was fired from southern Gaza toward the Kerem Shalom area on Saturday morning, which the Israel Defense Forces said was intercepted by air defenses.
Sirens had sounded in the border community of Kerem Shalom amid the attack. There were no reports of injuries or damage.
Over 30 rockets have been fired from Gaza at Israel in the past month, over a year after the start of the war in the Strip sparked by the Hamas terror group’s devastating attack on October 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, the IDF released footage showing a drone strike on terror operatives during operations in northern Gaza’s Jabalia.
According to the military, troops of the Givati Brigade operating a drone spotted three gunmen approaching the forces and hiding in a building.
In the clip published by the IDF, one of the gunmen can be seen in the building.
All three operatives were killed in a drone strike and gunfire by the troops, according to the military.
The IDF said that when soldiers entered the building they found a tunnel shaft that had been used by the operatives.
The rocket fire and drone strike came at the end of a deadly week for Israeli troops fighting in Gaza.
On Wednesday, three soldiers were killed in northern Gaza. According to an initial IDF probe, the troops were hit by a large explosive device that was detonated against a tank during operations in Beit Hanoun.
That incident came after three other troops were killed and several more wounded in separate incidents the previous two days, and brought Israel’s toll in the ground offensive against Hamas in the Strip and in military operations along the border with the enclave to 398. The toll includes a police officer killed in a hostage rescue mission and a Defense Ministry civilian contractor.
The war was sparked by the October 2023 onslaught in which Hamas-led terrorists slaughtered some 1,200 people and took 251 hostages.
The subsequent war in Gaza has killed over 46,000 Palestinians, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, whose unverified figures do not differentiate between combatants and civilians. The IDF said it had killed some 18,000 combatants in battle as of November and another 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7, 2023.
