Infant and mother seriously hurt in Bnei Brak fire
Blaze begins in shopping cart warehouse, causing smoke to billow into upstairs apartments
An infant and mother were hospitalized in serious condition after suffering from smoke inhalation in a building fire in Bnei Brak early Thursday.
A shopping cart warehouse on Moshe Pardo Street in the primarily Haredi Tel Aviv suburb caught fire overnight, according to an initial investigation.
The smoke rose to the residential upper floors of the building.
Seven firefighting crews were called to the scene.
By the time firefighters managed to evacuate the building’s several dozen residents, six people had suffered smoke inhalation. Besides the seriously hurt mother, 35, and her one-year-old son, four others were lightly hurt, according to the Magen David Adom rescue service.
The mother and son were taken to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, along with one other lightly hurt resident. The remaining three injured were taken to Ma’ayaney Hayeshua Hospital in Bnei Brak.
