Iron Dome headed for Tel Aviv
IDF to rehearse deploying anti-missile system and inspect possible launch sites in Gush Dan area
An Iron Dome missile defense battery will be deployed at various locations around Tel Aviv in the coming days. The temporary deployment is part of the system’s implementation and aims to allow the review of possible launch sites in the case of an emergency.
A military source said that various launch locations around the country were being reviewed as part of the system’s testing, and that the sites were chosen according to their “operational suitability for locating a battery during a future emergency.” The source stressed that the current deployment was only an exercise and was not operational. A similar deployment will also be tested in Haifa, in Herzliya, and near the northern border.
Earlier this month, when Islamic Jihad terrorists fired more than 200 rockets toward Israel from the Gaza Strip, the Iron Dome system successfully intercepted nearly all of those that posed a risk to southern towns and communities.
