Isaac Herzog gets the meme treatment
Competing Facebook pages pit badass Boujie against baby Boujie
Two meme-generating Facebook pages have been competing to brand one Israeli prime ministerial hopeful with a little help from Photoshop, pitting a “No More Mr. Nice Guy” Isaac Herzog against a cuter and and cuddlier version of the Labor Party leader.
The first page, “You don’t mess with the Boujie,” using Herzog’s nickname, swaps the faces of some of Hollywood’s most macho characters with Herzog’s, including Iron Man, Indiana Jones, and the Terminator.
“Cemeteries are full of the remains of people who tried to mess with Boujie ‘f****ing’ Herzog,” the page description says. “So do yourself a favor and don’t try it.”
The second page, “Boujie does cute things” amplifies Herzog’s wimpy public persona, frequently casting him as a baby or little girl.
“He has the charisma of a mosquito, the voice of a run-over squirrel, and the presence of a Q-tip. But he’s cute,” the page states.
Since the two Facebook pages were created in early December, “You don’t mess with the Boujie” has garnered over 4,200 “likes,” while “Boujie does cute things” has received over 3,900.
On December 17, “You don’t mess with the Boujie” shared an image of Herzog as Forrest Gump offering chocolate to the people sitting alongside him at a bus stop, created by “Boujie does cute things.” The caption explained that the photo shows that “even an icon of masculinity and toughness like Boujie can allow himself moments of tenderness and giving.”
The slight, glasses-wearing party leader, with his distinctive nasal voice, has been called a “nerd” by Likud MK Ze’ev Elkin, who termed his joint ticket with Tzipi Livni “beauty and the geek.”
Since he announced his candidacy, Herzog began taking voice lessons in an effort to appear more assertive, according to a Channel 2 report, indicating that he is seeking to shed his nerdy image.
In a Facebook post addressing the “You don’t mess with the Boujie” page, Herzog wrote: “I laughed and was happy that the message was received: we’re here to fight for our collective future.”
