Islamic State releases video of German bomber

BERLIN — The extremist Islamic State group published a video Tuesday in which a man pledges allegiance to IS and vows Germany’s people “won’t be able to sleep peacefully anymore.”

The video appeared to be the same as the one found by German investigators on the phone of man who blew himself, killing himself and wounding 15 people.

The IS-linked Aamaq news agency released the video early Tuesday of a man they identify as Mohammad Daleel.

Speaking in Arabic, his face covered with a black scarf, he threatens to make life intolerable and says that “we will blow up your homes.”

German authorities could not immediately be reached to confirm whether the video was the same as the one found on the cell phone of a 27-year-old Syrian who blew himself Sunday night in the Bavarian town of Ansbach. Police have named the bomber only as Mohammad D.

Aamaq also tweeted a photo which it claims is the terrorist without any face covering.

Previously German police announced that the bomber had made a video pledging allegiance to Islamic State.

“A video made by the assailant was found on his mobile phone in which he threatened an attack,” Bavarian state interior minister Joachim Herrmann told reporters.

“After that he announced in the name of Allah that he pledged allegiance to (IS chief) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the well-known Islamist leader, and announced an act of revenge against Germans because they were standing in the way of Islam.”

Islamic State claimed the bombing shortly after, according to Aamaq, calling the bomber one of its “soldiers” and saying it came in response to a call to strike countries that are part of the US-led coalition fighting the terror group.

The 27-year-old assailant wounded 15 people, four of them seriously, near a cafe in the southern city of Ansbach on Sunday night when he set off a bomb in his backpack, killing himself.
