Israel takes 2-1 lead in Davis Cup
Team needs one more win for chance to advance to coveted World Group

The accomplished Israeli tennis team of Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram won their doubles match on Saturday to give Israel a 2-1 lead over Japan in the World Group Play-off round of the international Davis Cup tournament.
The Israelis beat Japan’s Tatsuma Ito and Yuichi Sugita in three sets, with a final score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Israel must now win one of two singles matches on Sunday to make it through and have a chance to play for entry into the prestigious World Group, comprised of the best tennis nations around the globe.
Sunday’s matches pit Israel’s top-ranked player Dudi Sela against Ito, and Amir Weintraub faces Japan’s Go Soeda.
