An Israeli backpacker missing for several days in the Caucasus Mountains was found dead Sunday.

Dor Cohen, 22, had been trekking in Georgia when contact with him was lost on Wednesday.

Cohen, a recently released Israel Defense Forces officer, didn’t arrive at a meeting point set up between him and another Israeli he had been trekking with in Svaneti province near the border with Russia, according to Israeli media.

The second backpacker alerted local officials and Israeli authorities of Cohen’s disappearance, and a short while later, a rescue team working for the Israeli Harel Insurance company launched a search for Cohen.

Cohen’s brother later joined the Harel team in the search, Israel Hayom reported.

The Foreign Ministry and the insurance company are handling the transfer of Cohen’s body to Israel.
