Israeli designer confirms wedding gown sketches for Markle
British ceremony, American bride, Israeli dress? Maybe, if the soon-to-be-princess chooses Inbal Dror’s design
After sketches by Inbal Dror of three wedding gown options were leaked the morning of December 19 on TMZ, the internet was abuzz with rumors that she is in the running to festoon princess-to-be Meghan Markle.
The American actress and Prince Harry announced their engagement on November 27th after an 18-month romance, and the royal wedding is set to take place next year on Saturday, May 19 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
But what some people really want to know is who Markle will be wearing to her nuptials.
Asked about the rumors, the designer’s publicist sent The Times of Israel the following statement:
“Inbal Dror was indeed approached to submit sketches for Her Majesty Meghan Markle’s wedding gown after dressing many brides and celebrities around the world, such as Beyonce and the daughter-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
“It is important to note that the illustrations that appeared in the media are only preliminary, were not distributed by her, and we have no idea how [the photos] reached international media.”
(The designer’s publicist promoted American-born “commoner” Markle to “Her Majesty.” For now, she is “just” Hollywood royalty.)
According to The Forward, the leaked photos decrease the likelihood a Dror design will be chosen, as the dress designer wasn’t announced until a week or two before the wedding of both Kate Middleton and Princess Diana, and no information on the design was released until the actual ceremony.
The sketches feature Victorian necklines, tight bodices and long sleeves, ornamented with lace for a conservative look. The sketches are signed by the Israeli designer, “For Meghan Markle, with love. Inbal Dror.”
Dror, a graduate of the Shenkar Fashion Art Academy in Tel Aviv, is known for her very high or very low necklines and lacy designs. Beyonce wore a wedding gown from Dror’s Fall 2016 collection to the 2016 Grammy Awards.
If Israel can’t claim the wedding dress, perhaps the young royal couple will take up President Reuven Rivlin’s invitation to honeymoon in the Promised Land.
