Israeli indicted for posting ‘Death to Arabs’ on Facebook
Modiin resident charged with incitement, harassment for rants on social media calling for murder of Arabs, liberals
An Israeli court on Monday indicted a resident of Modiin for incitement over anti-Arab and anti-leftist comments that he posted on social media.
Eliav Eliyahu Mualem, 27, has been accused of calling for the deaths of Arabs and liberals in June and July 2014.
“Death to all Arabs… Jews unite!” Mualem posted on Facebook in July 2014.
Around that time, a group of three Israelis kidnapped a Palestinian teenager, Muhammed Abu Khdeir, and burned him alive in the woods outside of Jerusalem. The trio, who were all convicted of murder, claimed that the attack was in revenge for the killing of three Israeli teenagers by a group of Palestinian terrorists the previous month.
“Let’s hurry up and murder the next Arab. It’s very good that the murder victim was also 16 years old. We hope that the next Arabs who will be murdered will be even younger,” Mualem posted on Facebook.
He also called for the death of Hanin Zoabi, an Arab member of Knesset. “Death to Hanin Zoabi… Guys, with all due respect, kidnap her and load her into my house… I’ll take care of her,” he wrote.
But Mualem’s hatred extended beyond Palestinians and Arabs. “Death to the left-wingers before the Arabs!” he also wrote.
The Modiin resident has also been accused of harassing an Arab student at Bar-Ilan University, where he was also studying. According to the indictment, Mualem sent multiple text messages to the Arab woman after she asked him to stop and even warned him that she would report his behavior.
Ramle Magistrate’s Court indicted Mualem on multiple counts of incitement to violence and racism, as well as one charge of harassment.
