Haifa University and the Naveh Nof residential Tower in Bat Yam were set to be bathed in pink light on Tuesday night as part of the international breast cancer awareness campaign.

The two buildings, both of which tower over their surroundings, were chosen this year as Israel’s contribution to the campaign that every October sees structures around the world go pink.

The project is sponsored by cosmetic manufacturer Estee Lauder and the Israel Cancer Association.

“The purpose of lighting up the buildings is straightforward and simple,” said the managing director of Estee Lauder Israel, Oren Revah, Maariv reported. “To remind women in Israel that early examination saves lives.”

Over 200 buildings around the world are taking part in this year’s campaign, including the Empire State Building, the Sydney Opera House, and Buckingham Palace.

In 2010 the walls of the Old City in Jerusalem were illuminated pink during October as part of the breast cancer awareness campaign.
