Israeli man shot dead in northern Colombia city

Assailant reportedly fired 10 bullets from close range at 37-year-old expat; Israeli Foreign Ministry unable to confirm identity of victim

An Israeli citizen was shot to death Wednesday night in the northern Colombian city of Medellin, according to local media reports.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry could not immediately confirm the reports or the identity of the man.

The man, 37, was shopping in a supermarket when an unidentified man entered the store and assaulted him, according to one report. Another said he was on a motorbike outside the shop when attacked.

He was shot 10 times at close range and died instantly, reports said.

The incident is said to have taken place in the Simon Bolivar neighborhood in the center of the city.

The identity of the man was not immediately made public but the Israeli Ynet news site reported he was permanently living in Colombia and was married to a Colombian woman.

It also said he was working as a real estate agent.
