Israeli mountain climber found dead in Greece, two friends seriously injured
Rescue services find body after three days of searches
An Israeli mountain climber was killed and two others were severely injured in a climbing accident in Greece, Maariv reported Saturday. Greek rescue crews found the three men near a lake in the Gorgopotamos Canyon nature reserve after three days of searching.
The men, said to be in their forties, went missing on October 10, while trekking in the canyon. Searches for the missing men reportedly began immediately.
A source in the Greek emergency services told Maariv that the hikers suffered an accident after failing to note heavy rainfall that caused flooding in the region. The exact nature of the accident is not yet clear.
The injured men were transferred to a local hospital. The Israeli embassy in Athens is overseeing their treatment and is in contact with their relatives in Israel.
