Israeli security forces thwarted an arms smuggling attempt from Jordan into Israel on Tuesday when they seized a stash of weapons that included 20 handguns, five M-16 rifles and other weapons parts.

The operation was carried out by the IDF, the Shin Bet and the Israel Police following intelligence efforts.

Two Palestinians said to be waiting for the stash on the Israeli side were arrested. The arrest occurred near the Israeli moshav Argaman in the Jordan Valley.

The suspects were taken in for questioning.
