Israeli study reveals how to rekindle sexual flame
IDC researchers say responsiveness, attentiveness to partner will help maintain desire in long-term couples
Couples who have been together for a while often complain that the wear and tear of daily life drains their relationship of its initial spark.
Well, weary lovebirds, salvation may finally be at hand. Israeli researchers have found a surefire way to revive the passion you once shared.
So far for the good news.
The bad news? You’re going to have to do that other thing you used to do: actually pay attention to each other.
A study conducted by psychologist Gurit Birnbaum at IDC Herzliya found that a responsive and attentive partner tended to increase subjects’ sexual desire, according to a report in New York Magazine.
The study used various methods, including monitored face-to-face interactions and the keeping of a sexual diary, to examine how partners’ responsiveness affected arousal.
Both sexes showed increased interest when their partners made them feel special, though women were particularly reactive.
“Sexual desire thrives on rising intimacy,” according to Birnbaum and her team. “And being responsive to a partner’s needs is a promising way to instill and maintain this elusive sensation over time.”
