Israeli succumbs to injuries sustained in fall in Vietnam
Oz Levy, who was in his 20s and on post-army trip, dies as his parents fly him home for treatment
An Israeli man in his 20s died early Saturday of injuries sustained a week and a half ago during a fall from a great height in Vietnam. The man died en route to Israel, where he was to be hospitalized, the Foreign Ministry said.
He was later named as Oz Levy, who was travelling in Vietnam after the completion of his thee-year mandatory military service.
According to the Walla website, Levy stumbled while on a trek, and fell 10-15 meters down a waterfall. Friends who were accompanying him at the time of the accident administered first aid and took him to a local hospital. Levy’s parents then flew out to Vietnam with an Israeli doctor, and decided to bring their son home, sedated and on a respirator. His condition declined during the flight, and repeated efforts to resuscitate him failed.
Levy’s death comes days after three Israeli tourists were killed in two separate car crashes while traveling abroad.
According to the Foreign Ministry, a 23-year-old man touring Colombia with his friends was killed in a car crash late Tuesday night. The accident occurred on San Andrés, a popular Caribbean island tourist destination belonging to the South American country.
A Foreign Ministry statement said the man was seriously wounded in the crash and died on the way to the hospital.
Hours earlier, the ministry confirmed that a mother and daughter from Rishon Lezion were killed in a car crash in southern Switzerland.
