Israeli woman stabbed, seriously injured, at Rome train station — Italian media
Victim taken to hospital with three stab wounds; motive unclear, but local outlets say it was likely a robbery gone wrong
An Israeli tourist was stabbed and seriously wounded at a train station in Rome on Saturday night, local Italian media reported.
According to the Italian outlet Il Giornale, the assailant fled the scene and police were searching for him.
The attack occurred at Rome’s Termini train station, apparently as the woman was making her way to the airport to return to Israel on Saturday night.
The assailant came up to her as she was at a ticket machine and stabbed her twice.
The Israeli woman was taken to Rome’s Policlinico Umberto I hospital with serious injuries, though her condition has since stabilized.
The Foreign Ministry did not immediately comment on the incident.
In a graphic video of the attack, a man holding a bright blue plastic bag can be seen slowly walking up to the woman as she stands at the ticket machine and suddenly grabbing her and stabbing her in the torso. He then pushes her to the floor. When she stands up and begins grappling with him, he again stabs her, before running away.
The motive for the attack was not immediately clear. Local media speculated that it may have been a robbery gone wrong.
