Jerusalem dance troupe stages solo creations at upcoming festival
Jerusalem International Solo Dance Festival focuses on the individual at September event
It’s all about the individual at the Jerusalem International Solo Dance Festival, taking place September 6-8 at Jerusalem’s Hansen House.
Created and organized by the local Angela Dance Company, the event celebrates performance art and craft.
The festival highlights dance as an act of storytelling that emphasizes the individual’s narrative, said choreographer Miriam Engel, who founded and directs Angela Dance Company and the accompanying festival.
Choreographers from Israel and around the world will perform works at the event, along with teaching master classes and holding discussions open to the public.
There is also a residency program for Jerusalem artists and international guests. The participating artists will stay in Jerusalem, working and creating while being inspired by the city, said Engel.
It echoes Engel’s own work in Angela, which produces original, contemporary dance works from the company’s home base in Jerusalem’s Katamon neighborhood, connecting to the local community and working with young artists from the area.
