A woman was arrested in Jerusalem on Monday after four rabbit carcasses were found in her suitcase.

The woman, a resident of the capital who was not identified, is suspected of animal abuse.

Three live guinea pigs and another rabbit were also retrieved from the bag. The dead rabbits were thought to have died from the heat.

During police questioning, the woman claimed the animals were hers. She said a local museum had confiscated her pets and she went over there to retrieve them.

Police were alerted to the scene after another resident saw the woman holding a dead rabbit on a Jerusalem park bench.

The woman is in police custody.

Police said she would undergo a psychiatric evaluation before they move to prosecute.
