Jewish Agency to help protect communities around the world
New fund is in response to the Toulouse attacks and will be established to counter anti-Semitism
Jewish Agency Chairman of the Executive Natan Sharansky announced on Tuesday the establishment of a new fund to protect international Jewish communities.
The Emergency Aid for Jewish Communities Fund will aim to protect community members and institutions in the face of a surge in antisemitic incidents around the world and in light of the Toulouse shootings in March of this year when four French Jews were massacred at a Jewish school.
“Jews abroad need a strong Israel, and Israel needs the strength of the Jewish world,” Sharansky said. “The Jewish Agency plays a central role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Jewish communities throughout the world. We established this fund in order to prevent the next Toulouse, to help protect Jewish schools and all communal institutions and community members.”
The fund will be initiated by The Jewish Agency in partnership with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
The fund will be managed by the Jewish Agency and sustained by contributions from philanthropists and Jewish communities.
