After two months of the war and a failed ceasefire with Hamas, Israel is turning its ground operations to southern Gaza even as the world expresses dismay over mounting civilian casualties in the Strip.

To probe whether the IDF is acting legally and ethically in Gaza, we turn to Prof. Amichai Cohen of the Israel Democracy Institute.

Cohen is a recognized expert in the International Law of Armed Conflict, National Security Law, and Civil-Military Relations.

As international pressure builds on Israel to lessen the impact on Palestinian civilians while the IDF prosecutes a war against Hamas in all of Gaza, Cohen addresses issues such as the legal legitimacy of Israel’s right to self-defense, the international bodies that determine laws of warfare and how to try Hamas for international war crimes.

Prof. Amichai Cohen joins Times of Israel deputy editor Amanda Borschel-Dan for a Behind the Headlines webinar this Wednesday, December 6, exclusively for Times of Israel Community members.
