Tickets here! J’lem, May 24: Matti Friedman on Leonard Cohen’s Yom Kippur War tour
Join us for the first evening in our [email protected] series: Author Matti Friedman in conversation with ToI’s David Horovitz at Jerusalem’s First Station — plus a Leonard Cohen cover band!
To mark The Times of Israel’s 10-year anniversary, we are hosting a special series of live, in-person events this year under the banner [email protected].
We’re excited to invite you to our kickoff event at Jerusalem’s First Station on May 24 at 7:30 p.m.: Who By Fire — Leonard Cohen and the Yom Kippur War. The evening features author Matti Friedman in conversation with ToI’s David Horovitz, discussing Friedman’s fascinating new book on the singer’s extraordinary tour for IDF troops in 1973.
The conversation will be accompanied by a live band playing classic Leonard Cohen tunes.
SPACE IS LIMITED so order soon:

Working from rare source material — including a never-before-seen unfinished Cohen manuscript — author Friedman describes how the poet and singer traveled from his home on the Greek island of Hydra to the chaos and bloodshed of the Sinai desert after Egypt attacked Israel on the Jewish high holiday of Yom Kippur in October 1973.
Those who survived never forgot the experience and the war transformed Cohen.
We’d like to thank our [email protected] Sponsors, American Friends of Meir Panim and Beauchamp Estates, for helping make this and future [email protected] events possible:
If you’re in Israel, we’d be thrilled if you can join us for this special kickoff [email protected] event on Tuesday, May 24 at 7:30 pm at the Jerusalem First Station’s Cabana Bar. If you’re a ToI Community member, you are entitled to half-priced tickets (limit two per event).
We hope to see you there!
