Jon Stewart chair-slams wrestler at WWE match
In first gig after leaving Daily Show, comedian runs onto the stage for a brief but violent cameo
Comedian Jon Stewart’s hosting of an entertainment wrestling match took a violent turn Sunday night when he entered the ring and started hitting one of the wrestlers with a chair.
At one point during the scripted World Wrestling Entertainment match, as wrestlers John Cena and Seth Rollins lay exhausted, Stewart ran onto the stage, surveying the wrestlers before attacking Cena with a chair, helping Rollins win the match.
Perhaps Stewart was making up for kicking Rollins in the groin the last time he participated in a WWE event.
“Let me tell you the difference between politics and what you’re going to see tonight. WWE performers you’re going to see tonight, they respect their audience,” Time reported Stewart as saying during the game’s introduction.
“I’ve spent the last 16 years talking about politics,” Stewart added wryly. “It’s nice to be back in reality.”
Stewart, who is Jewish, is known for hosting satirical late night show “The Daily Show,” in which he often poked fun at politicians and news media. Earlier this month he left the program after serving as its host for 16 years.
