Jordan lawmaker shoots at colleague

A Jordanian lawmaker fired several shots from an automatic weapon at another parliamentarian over a personal dispute in a corridor of the Chamber of Deputies Tuesday, according to two fellow deputies.

The targeted legislator was not injured.

While this was the first instance in recent history of a weapon being discharged in the chamber, it was not the first time one had been brandished.

Last summer, a deputy tried to point his gun at another lawmaker during a televised debate but was overpowered by colleagues.

Weapons are officially banned inside parliament.

The two lawmakers said action would be taken against the shooter, whose immunity would be lifted and who would be handed over to police.

The names of the four lawmakers could not be published under parliament rules.
