Lapid wants detention camps, deportation for African migrants

Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid stressed on Sunday the importance of not lumping all Africans residing in Israel into one category.

Speaking to students at the Hebrew University Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot, the television personality-turned-politician compared refugees from Darfur to Holocaust refugees. However, regarding Africans who enter Israel in search of employment, Lapid said, “We must find a way to catch migrant workers, place them in detention camps and deport them.”

“It’s not humane and I don’t like it,” Lapid said, “but we must take control of the situation now while we still can, at the same time adhering to international law.”
