MK Tzipi Hotovely of the Likud, 35, tied the knot on Monday evening in a Kfar Shmaryahu wedding ceremony attended by upwards of 2,000 people, including the creme of Israel’s political, business and religious establishment. Work at the Knesset stopped early to enable MKs to participate.

The deputy transportation minister married lawyer Or Alon, 31, whom she met just a few months ago. According to Hebrew media reports, Hotovely will hyphenate her last name to Hotovely-Alon.

Hotovely had ascended to the Temple Mount the day before her wedding, and, according to a Haaretz account of the ceremony, sand from the Mount was sprinkled on the groom during the proceedings.

The bride’s political mentor, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, did not attend the wedding, reportedly to avoid the imposition that the necessary security arrangements would require.

The Knesset closed down early on Monday to accommodate the many MKs who attended the wedding.
