‘Major development’ reported in Jewish terror probe
Strict gag order clamped on all details of a case that has been a focus of attention for police and Shin Bet in recent months
There has been a dramatic development in an ongoing investigation into a terror attack allegedly carried out by Jewish extremists, Israeli media outlets reported Monday, although details of the case were placed under a strict gag order.
The case has been at the center of a joint Israel Police and Shin Bet security service operation in recent months, Channel 2 television said.
Officials were confident that, with the fresh advances, they would succeed in completing the investigation and in pressing charges against the suspects, the Ynet news website reported.
Ynet called the case one of the most serious instances of Jewish terrorism in recent years.
Channel 2 reported that significant progress had been made in solving the case, following a series of consultation meetings about the matter.
Although both the state prosecutor and the court declined to approve publication of details about the case, the gag order is expected to be lifted in the coming days.
A senior Israel Defense Forces officer recently revealed that Israeli security forces have managed to thwart several attacks planned by Jewish terror groups in the past few months, Channel 2 said.
Security officials have vowed to clamp down on so-called “price tag” attacks — acts of offensive graffiti and arson — carried out by Jewish extremists that have targeted Palestinian and Christian property.
