Man killed as truck crashes into pedestrian bridge

A truck driver was trapped and killed in his vehicle Sunday morning after he hit a pedestrian bridge in Kfar Saba. The bridge collapsed upon his truck from the impact, pinning him inside the cab.

The truck was carrying a tractor, which is what evidently hit the bridge on Weitzman Street, Channel 10 reported.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene worked for hours to free the driver, 54-year-old Avraham Gola, but the collapsed bridge had crushed the cab, preventing them from treating him. A crane was later brought in to remove the bridge debris.

The driver was the only casualty of the incident, which caused extensive traffic delays in the area.

Kfar Saba Mayor Yehuda Ben Hamo said the bridge had been inspected by city engineers within the last six months and was found to be sound.
