Man killed, another seriously hurt in separate shootings in Lod
Fatality named as Wadi Abu Salamish, who watchdog group says is the 56th Arab to be killed in a homicide this year
A man was killed and another seriously hurt in two separate shooting incidents in the central city of Lod Saturday evening, according to police.
The two men were brought independently to the nearby Asaf Harofeh hospital, not by ambulance.
One of the men, a 19-year-old from the adjacent city of Ramle, died of his wounds at the medical center. He was later named as Wadi Abu Salamish.
Police said they were investigating the incidents and held a situational assessment, which included “an analysis of targeted actions against the perpetrators of crime and violent conflict on the Arab street.”
According to the Abraham Initiatives watchdog, Abu Salamish was the 56th Arab in Israel to be killed in a homicide since the start of the year.
Arab communities have seen a rising wave of violence in recent years. Many blame the police, who they say have failed to crack down on powerful criminal organizations and largely ignore the violence, which includes family feuds, mafia turf wars, and violence against women.
