Police instruct Israel Railways to stop traffic through Tel Aviv HaShalom station for several hours as it investigates
A man was killed Thursday by a train in Tel Aviv after getting on the tracks, causing one of Israel’s main stations to close down for several hours.
The man was rammed by a passing train at the Tel Aviv HaShalom station in the evening hours, with authorities saying details of the incident were being investigated, according to Hebrew-language media.
It was not clear how the man ended up on the tracks.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced him dead. They also treated the train operator for shock.
Israel Railways announced after the incident that at orders by police, all train traffic through the station would be halted.
According to a statement, all trains arriving from the south will end their service at the Tel Aviv HaHaganah station, while trains from the north will terminate at Tel Aviv Savidor Central station.
Traffic in the station resumed several hours later.
