Man killed in drive-by on highway near Haifa
Vehicle driving on Route 70 sprayed with bullets, slams into guard rail; second passenger lightly injured
A man in his 40s was killed in an apparent drive-by shooting on Route 70 in northern Israel early Tuesday.
The car was driving on the highway east of Haifa, near the town of Kfar Hasidim, when it was peppered with bullets and slammed into the guardrail.
The driver suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
A second person was lightly injured and receiving treatment for bruising in the incident, according to Channel 2.
Police searched the area for possible suspects and launched an investigation into the incident.
In a separate incident, a truck driver in his 20s was shot by unidentified assailants Tuesday south of Dimona, in the Negev Desert. He was injured and hospitalized at Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center, Army Radio reported.
