A 30-year-old man was shot and killed in Bat Yam on Tuesday evening, in what believe was a confrontation between two members of organized crime groups.

Shortly after 7 p.m., Magen David Adom was alerted to a shooting in the central Israel town, where one man was critically injured.

Eyewitnesses told Channel 12 that the attacker fired at the victim from a Yamaha motorbike, which he was riding with another passenger. The suspects then fled the scene.

Medics who arrived on the scene of the shooting transported the man, a resident of nearby Holon, to Wolfson Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Ayalon District Police opened an investigation into the shooting, which will be led by the district’s major crimes unit, district commander Haim Bublil said during an assessment at the scene of the shooting. The police added in a statement that a search for the attackers is underway.

Police said they were treating the incident as “criminal,” indicating they don’t suspect a terror motive.

The victim’s identity was not immediately made public.

The incident was the latest in a wave of deadly crime across Israel, which has disproportionately affected the Arab community.
