A man was shot dead in the central region town of Shoham on Tuesday, the second fatal shooting incident involving members of the Arab Israeli community within 24 hours.

The man, a resident of the Arab town of Jaljulia around 30 years of age, died on Ha’etrog Street near a building site.

He was apparently in his car when shots were fired at him.

Paramedics who arrived tried to resuscitate the man but declared him dead at the scene.

Police said they opened an investigation into the shooting.

An eyewitness told the Ynet news site he heard shots fired and then moments later a car arrived at the building site. The driver got out of the car and collapsed on the street, the witness said.

It was the 37th homicide since the start of the year in the Arab community, which has seen an ongoing wave of violent crime.

On Monday night a 43-year-old man, Mahmoud Sna Allah from the town of Deir al-Assad, was shot dead in his car in the northern town of Bi’ina. One other man was lightly injured in the incident, Channel 12 reported.

Arab communities have seen a surge in violence in recent years. Many blame the police, who they say have failed to crack down on powerful criminal organizations and largely ignore the violence, which includes family feuds, mafia turf wars, and violence against women.

On Saturday, 27-year-old Taufik Ara, the owner of a local tire repair store, was shot and killed as he sat in his vehicle in the northern town of Jatt.

Also on Saturday, an 18-year-old man was shot and seriously injured in the northern town of Umm al-Fahm.
