An off-duty Israeli soldier opened fire at a suspect in Jerusalem’s Old City on Wednesday, police said. The suspect was seriously injured by the gunfire, and another three people were lightly hurt in the incident.
Media reports indicated the man was a Palestinian.
According to Hebrew media, the man who was shot was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. The incident was under investigation.
Police said they were looking into reports that the soldier, along with other off-duty troops, were involved in a violent incident with the suspect before shots were fired. The altercation involved parties throwing objects at each other.
Police added that they were investigating a claim made by the off-duty soldiers that the suspect attempted to snatch one of their weapons.

“We saw two injured people who were conscious and suffering from penetrating injuries. We gave them medical care that included bandaging and medication and evacuated them in intensive care ambulances to the hospital,” said Magen David Adom paramedic Shilo Karmon.
