A man was stabbed to death during a street brawl in the northern Israeli Arab city of Umm al-Fahm overnight Sunday.

Muhammad Hajj Moussa, 33, a resident of the city, was taken to the Emek hospital in Afula in critical condition and died while undergoing emergency surgery.

Police arrived at the scene in large numbers and opened an investigation. No arrests have yet been made.

A local resident told Ynet that it was not clear what the fight was about.

“We were notified that a man was seriously injured from a stabbing, but we didn’t understand exactly what happened,” he said. “We waited to hear about his condition and regrettably we were told that he died of his wounds.”

Early Sunday morning, a 22-year-old man was shot to death in the village of Ara near Umm al-Fahm.

According to Ynet, since the beginning of 2018 five people have been murdered in Umm Al-Fahm, which has a population of around 52,000, and another 14 were injured in shootings. The report said that only one of the murder cases has been solved by police and the rest are still under investigation.
