Masked man robs bank in Tel Aviv suburb, escapes

Police check whether armed robber is behind series of heists in the past year

A gunman robbed a bank in the Tel Aviv area, shooting into the air and escaping on a motorcycle, police said Monday.

Police are searching for the robber and are investigating the possibility that the suspect was involved in other robberies in the last year.

On Monday afternoon, the masked man entered the Mizrahi Tefahot bank on Hamashbir Street in Holon, disarmed the guard at the door at gunpoint, fired his pistol in the air, and told everyone to lie on the floor.

The robber then stole tens of thousands of shekels from the bank and fled the scene.

Police say the robber may be the same man they believe is behind a spate of robberies last year. He is known for using a motorcycle as an escape vehicle.

That serial bank robber is wanted for 13 crimes in the past year, including the murder of a bank guard in Be’er Yaakov and the shooting of a man during a heist in Upper Nazareth.
