The Ottawa Palestine Solidarity Network has published an invitation on its blog for the public to attend a lecture given by MK Ahmad Tibi at an event commemorating “Land Day,” the day on which many Palestinians and their supporters “mourn” the birth of the State of Israel.

The organization describes itself as “Ottawa’s city-wide coalition of unions, faith groups, students, and community organizations, uniting to demand peace and justice in the middle east and an end to Canadian complicity in humanitarian abuses.” The group was formed in 2006 “in response to Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Gaza and Lebanon,” according to OPSN’s website.

Tibi, who was an advisor to Palestinian Authority president Yasser Arafat, was criticized in March 2012 for writing on his own Facebook page, “Gaza is strong, Gaza stands steadfast!” while rockets were being fired into southern Israel.
