Egypt President Mohammed Morsi  is set to meet with Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday, around the summit of Non-Aligned Movement gathering in Tehran, Lebanese news source Al-Mayadin reported on Wednesday.

Morsi’s participation in the summit marks the first visit of an Egyptian president to Iran in over 30 years.

Egyptian establishment daily Al-Ahram on Monday reported Iran is hoping to resume full diplomatic relations with Egypt, which have been cut since the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

Iran’s support of the Syrian regime is another obstacle to resuming normal relations, the daily claimed, since that position contradicts the stated goals of Egypt’s revolution, to which Morsi subscribes.
