Mortar shot into southern Israel

No injuries or damage reported

A mortar shell fired from Gaza landed in the Eshkol region of Israel Tuesday afternoon. A fire broke out after the mortar exploded, but no damage or injuries were reported.

Rockets have been sporadically shot into Israel over the last several days. Tensions ramped up on Friday after an IDF soldier was killed by a Gazan infiltrator near the border.

Israel responded by bombing sites in the Gaza Strip over the weekend, injuring several people and killing one.

Terror groups in Gaza have shot one or two rockets into Israel per day since then. They have all landed in open areas.

Israel and Gaza have experienced a tense calm since a ceasefire was brokered in February, ending several days of fighting.
