Mortar fired from Gaza lands in Israel
Shell hits Eshkol region; no injuries or damage reported
A mortar shell from the Gaza Strip landed in an open area near Israel’s border with Gaza on Sunday evening. No injuries or damage were reported.
Aside for a Kassam rocket that landed near Ashkelon last Wednesday, the border with Hamas-controlled Gaza has been relatively quiet in recent months.
On Sunday, Israel allowed trucks of building materials meant for private construction into the Strip for the first time in six years.
Friday saw a small clash between troops and Palestinians who approached the border fence. Two Gazans were injured by IDF fire.
In November 2012, Israel launched Pillar of Defense, an eight-day campaign intended to stop several years of rocket attacks on the south from the Gaza Strip.
