Lebanese MP wants to go to UN after Israel ‘kidnaps’ shepherd
Hezbollah known to send herders to scout borderland
A Lebanese member of parliament demanded the United Nations step in after a shepherd was detained by IDF troops Friday near Israel’s border.
Youssef Mohammad Zahra, 18, was released on Saturday.
MP Qassem Hashem was quoted by The Lebanese Daily Star as saying Saturday that “we should file a complaint with the UN Security Council regarding the aggressive Zionist practices.” He added that the shepherd had been “kidnapped.”
“Israeli forces apprehended an unarmed individual who had crossed from Lebanon into northern Israel,” the Israel Defense Forces said. “The suspect was transferred to security forces.”
Marj el-Teiss, where Zahra was detained, is located in the disputed Shebaa Farms area, at the junction of Lebanon, Syria and Israel. The area has been held by Israel since 1967.
Hezbollah is known to send shepherds as scouts to map out Israeli forces along the northern border, many of whom are detained and sent back.
