Israel Museum says ancient Roman-era glass vase looks better after repairs
A young girl visiting the Israel Museum managed to break a 2,000-year-old glass vase Sunday, but the museum isn’t falling to pieces over the loss.
That’s because the repair job actually has the vessel looking better than before, according to a report in the Haaretz daily Tuesday.
The girl apparently clutched the case holding the 2,000-year-old vase, dislodging the vase and causing it to fall and break along an old crack it had.
The Roman-era vase is part of the Robert and Renee Belfer collection, which hosts artifacts from ancient Egypt, the Roman Empire and the Byzantine period.
The glass vessel was sent for repairs in the museum laboratory, where it was made to look better than before, according to the report.
“It would require a great effort to notice the crack with the naked eye,” the museum said.
