Natalie Portman to play Jackie Kennedy in new film
Days after being cast to star in Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic, the Jewish actress lands another major role
Natalie Portman will portray Jackie Kennedy in a new film depicting the first four days of her life following the assassination of her husband, 35th US president John F. Kennedy.
“Jackie” is expected to go into production at the end of the year, and will reunite the Israeli-American actress with Darren Aronovsky, who directed her in the 2010 ballet thriller “Black Swan,” for which she received an Academy Award, Variety reported Thursday.
Aronovsky is slated to produce the upcoming film.
Portman is currently making her directorial debut in the Cannes Film Festival, where her adaptation of Israeli novelist Amos Oz’s autobiographical “A Tale of Light and Darkness” has garnered much attention. The movie was filmed in Israel and is largely in Hebrew.
“‘Jackie’ talks about the days when Jackie Kennedy becomes an icon but has lost everything,” Vincent Maraval, an executive at the biopic’s distribution company, told Variety.
On Sunday it was announced that the actress will also star as US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in a film following the obstacles she faced on the road to becoming the first Jewish female justice.
