Netanyahu #26 on Forbes powerful list
Putin tops list, followed by Obama; 6 Jews in magazine's top 30
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was ranked the 26th most-powerful person in the world by Forbes magazine Wednesday.
The magazine listed 72 politicians, CEOs, billionaires and philanthropists in its annual “The World’s Most Powerful People.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin topped the list, with US President Barack Obama coming in second. Chinese President Xi Jinping ranked third, with Pope Francis and German Chancellor Angela Merkel rounding out the top five.
Forbes pointed out that the 50-day war against Hamas in Gaza was the biggest military engagement of Netanyahu’s three terms in office, and noted the sharp international criticism directed Netanyahu’s way in the wake of the conflict.
Several other Jews featured prominently on the list, including US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen (#6), Google co-founder Sergey Brin (#9), Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerburg (#22), former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg (#23), and Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein (#27).
