Netanyahu’s official car involved in crash; ex-PM wasn’t in vehicle
Driver lightly hurt in collision with taxi on Jerusalem street
Opposition Leader MK Benjamin Netanyahu’s official car was involved in a crash in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
Netanyahu’s vehicle collided with a taxi on Harav Avida Street in the capital.
The driver was lightly injured and taken to a local hospital, according to Hebrew media reports.
The former prime minister was not in the car at the time.
Police opened an investigation into the incident.
A photo from the crash showed significant damage to the front left side of the car.
The accident came shortly before Netanyahu visited the popular Mahane Yehuda Market where, surrounded by a detail of police officers, he was welcomed by crowds who called out “Bibi the king,” using the former prime minister’s nickname.
Netanyahu posted a video of his visit to his Facebook page.
“What a pleasure to meet with Israel at the Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem,” Netanyahu wrote in the post.
The video of his visit to the market came a day after he told a meeting of his Likud party faction in the Knesest that he had been greeted by a throng of adoring supporters when he left a Jerusalem barbershop earlier in the day. However, in a video aired Monday evening by Channel 12, only a handful of people were seen approaching Netanyahu.
