One killed, two severely injured in Route 1 accident

One person was killed Saturday and two more were severely hurt in a car accident near the Hemed intersection on Route 1 between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

According to initial reports from the scene, the vehicle hit a barrier along the side of the highway.

Magen David Adom paramedics rushed three injured individuals — a 26-year-old and two 30-year-olds — to the nearby Hadassah Ein Karem hospital for emergency treatment.

The youngest of the three, who was initially in critical condition, later died of his wounds.

The section between the Hemed and the Harel interchanges on Route 1 was temporarily closed to traffic following the accident.
