Palestinian arrested for attempt to stab soldier in Hebron
19-year-old said to have threatened infantryman with knife near Tomb of the Patriarchs; no injuries reported
A Palestinian man was arrested on Friday for threatening to stab a soldier near the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron.
The 19-year-old was apprehended by security forces following the incident. No injuries were reported.
The individual is in police custody and remains under investigation.
The Tomb of the Patriarchs is a holy site in both Judaism and Islam, and is said to be the burial place of Abraham, his wife, Sara, and their descendants and wives, the Matriarchs. The Ibrahimi Mosque, a revered Salaheddine-era house of worship, was also built on the location.
The West Bank site has often been a point of contention between Jewish and Muslim worshipers.
Security forces at a Hebron checkpoint thwarted a stabbing attack last year after a 17-year-old Palestinian female carrying a knife admitted to planning an attack on soldiers guarding the tomb.
