Blade uncovered during search near Damascus Gate of Old City, police say
A Palestinian man was arrested after he was found carrying a large knife in East Jerusalem Tuesday morning.
The man, a 26-year-old from the Jenin area in the West Bank, was stopped near the Old City’s Damascus Gate, police said.
“Police approached him and asked to search him. During the search they found a knife hidden up his sleeve,” a police spokesperson said.
The suspect was detained by police and taken for questioning.
Police described the incident as a thwarted attack.
“Police vigilance and operation skills prevented an attack on security forces and innocents,” a police official said.
The Damascus Gate area has seen several attempted attacks over the last days, including a shootout between Palestinians and Israeli border guards on Sunday night.
On Monday, a Palestinian woman was arrested after pulling a knife on border guards during a search, police said.
