Dozens of youths blocked a street on the outskirts of the Armon Hanatziv, a Jewish neighborhood of East Jerusalem, on Thursday morning and threw stones at police who arrived at the scene.

Security forces dispersed the crowd on Moshe Barazani Street and no injuries were reported.

A police patrol car was damaged in the clash, Israel Radio reported.

Elsewhere in the city, a Jewish youth reported to police that he was attacked near the Damascus Gate, but did not require medical attention.

And at a checkpoint outside of Ma’ale Adumim east of Jerusalem, security forces detained a resident of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shuafat who had a 27 centimeter (11 inch) long kitchen knife in his possession, according to reports.

Armon Natziv, also known as East Talpiot, is a Jewish neighborhood over the Green Line that marked Israel’s pre-1967 boundaries, putting it on land that the Palestinians want as part of a future state. It faces the Arab neighborhoods of Sur Baher and Jabel Mukaber, where regular clashes between rioters and police have taken place in recent weeks.

On Wednesday border guards posted temporary checkpoints at the entrance to Sur Baher as well as other East Jerusalem neighborhoods and began stopping residents leaving for the western part of the city, in a bid to stem a wave of terror attacks that has wracked the capital.

The postings were part of a strategy to return calm to the city after Tuesday’s terror attack in the Har Nof neighborhood on the western edge of the city.

Four worshipers and a policeman responding to the scene were killed when two cousins from Jabel Mukaber, armed with a gun and knives, stormed into a synagogue in a brazen early morning attack.

Israel has deployed hundreds of police reinforcements to the capital in recent weeks in response to the unrest in East Jerusalem, which has also spread to the West Bank and Arab communities across Israel, raising fears of a new Palestinian uprising.
